A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
To use our knowledge, skills, community relationships, volunteers and other resources to create and promote safe and affordable home ownership options with the aim of alleviating the cycle of poverty within our community.
Habitat Halton was started by folks at Port Nelson United Church in Burlington, in 1999. They’ve since provided homes to 17 families in Halton – giving them access to safe, decent affordable homes, which they help build with 500 hours of sweat equity, and then pay an interest-free mortgage. It’s a hand up rather than a hand out. Wellington Square has been a long time supporter, as donors and with volunteers, including through a faith group build. In 2012 a small group helped renovate a condo on Warwick and half the Christmas Eve offering went to Habitat. In 2014 Habitat Halton will be building all summer on Plains Rd in a multi-unit build. There will be lots of volunteer opportunities as well as in the ReStore and on committees.
